In settings guidelines and rules, children understand and accept rules of authority figures and judge actions by their consequences, behaviors that result in punishment are bad, those that lead to rewards are good. Teaching children to obey rules because they promote social harmony within close personal ties, because they want to be considered a good person around friends and relatives.
