I believe that it is for the best that a teacher construct a basic routine for how days in a childcare facility will be spent. There are many children who are comfortable operating under a routine with preplanned activities. However, that schedule does not need to be so strict that it restricts children who feel uncomfortable following a predetermined set of activities. What I would do is tell the children at the start of the day what activities one teacher will be doing; this will be the schedule for the day. Children will have the option to go and participate in the activity or do something else around the classroom under another teacher’s supervision. Teachers may ask the children if they would like to participate in the activities but would not force the children to do so if they do not want to. I think that that sort of a system would cater to both the children who prefer routine schedules and those who prefer to do whatever they feel like doing.
