Materials for infants and toddlers should ideally be larger (books) and softer (toys). Potentially hazardous materials, such as paints and glues, should be kept out of the children’s reach when not under adult supervision. The environment should also be more plush, with pillows and bean bag chairs, and the teachers must ensure that there are no choking hazards within reach of the children. There should be enough space available to encourage the children to move about freely and develop their motor skills.
