What makes a good environment for children is in many ways the same set of traits that make a good environment for anyone. The environment should be warm, aesthetically pleasing, and ideally have a balance of natural and artificial light. But along with these traits, the environment must be able to stimulate the children’s curiosity and sense of autonomy. The child should be able to feel that the classroom is a place for them to explore and discover by their own choice. The classroom should convey that it is a place that can accommodate any child, of any learning type and of any temperament. It should provide opportunities to be excited and opportunities to relax. To be the ideal classroom, it should feel like a second home to the children that it serves.
