The information gained from observation is so valuable because each child is very unique in how they develop. There is a range of typical development, but that doesn't mean everyone will progress at the same pace. Some children will need more scaffolding or creative prompting to get to the same place as others who may need little to none. It's very difficult to individualize activities if you have no observations on the child.
