Observation can key a teacher in to many different things. First and foremost, it can let a teacher know where a child is developmentally, where they stand to improve through scaffolding and areas where they may potentially need some assistance. Beyond that, observation can help a teacher understand a child's behaviors, likes and dislikes, temperament, optimal learning style, and so on.
