Since not all children will nap at the same time, there needs to be a safe place the child can rest, where they can be supervised easily. It is good if the children know that they can rest anytime they are feeling tired. So, it is good to plan to discuss a child’s sleep patterns with the parent when the child starts care, because when child care providers understand how and when a child sleeps at home, that information can be used to plan nap times while the child is in their care. Because some children fall asleep at the same time everyday no matter what is going on, and other children fall asleep easily some days and at other times can't get settled. Some children nap less during the day and sleep longer at night, while others seem to need a long sleep during the day.
