Effective communication with a child's family can be made much easier if you have made an effort to establish a relationship with them and gotten to know them. It is also important that you try to see things from their perspective, acknowledge that you can see things from their perspective, and then offer your own input. Let them know that you want to have a collaborative dialogue that works towards what is best for the child. Sensitivity to the concerns and needs of the families is crucial for effective communication.
