To create successful and positive provider-family relationships you should:
Welcome families: Treating newly enrolled families with warmth and respect is essential.
Open Communication - Create and environment of continuity with consistent expectations and approaches for children at home and in child care.
Positive Communication - Active listening and using "I" statements when speaking.
Involvement - Engage families in their children's care and complement their role as primary teacher.
Building parental self-esteem - Find genuine means of communicating how important they are to their child.
Encouraging Competence - Compliment their efforts, notice their child's successes, and treat them as knowledgable partners.

I can create a positive provider-family relationship by welcoming families and being friendly, warm and respectful. Moreover, by using and encouraging open communication (being consistent regarding expectations and approaches for children at home and childcare facility). Additionally I can create a positive provider-family relationship, by using positive communication and being an active listener when communicating with families as well as using “I statements”. Furthermore, by engaging families in their children’s care support and extending (complementing) the family’s role as primary educator as well as finding honest ways to communicate how important they are to their child/children. I can create a positive provider-family relationship also by encouraging competence (complementing their efforts and knowledge, noticing their child’s success and acknowledging emotions).

The best way to take lead in creating a positive relationship with the family is to always invite them to be a part of the planning of the child's developmental process. Let them know how important their input is and how much they can help and have an open mind about their suggestions.
