One way to become aware of the signs of abuse is to have your licensor supply you with a copy of the pamphlet "Protecting the Abused and neglected Child"/ educating yourself on the subject
symptoms:
-Sudden change in behavior
-Overly compliant or withdrawn
-Frightened of parents or cries when it's time to go home
-Shrinks at the approach of an adult
-has unexplained bruises, bites, broken bones, black eyes
-The child directly tells you he/she is being abused

Several states require all applicants for child care certification go through training regarding the identification and reporting of suspected child abuse and maltreatment. This I think is an important policy because you learn to recognize changes in a child’s behavior, which can be potential abuse indicator. Child abuse can occur in more ways than just physical, sometimes the worse scars are left by emotional abuse and neglect, which are forms of child abuse that aren’t as easy to detect. But regardless of the type of child abuse and neglect the resulting emotional damage can prevent them from having a normal childhood.
