In my classroom we have a large number of different nationalities of Hispanic cultures: Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mexican. One thing that they all share in common is the grandparents, especially the grandmother runs the household. Allot of my other children did not understand why. We sat down and watched a few different movies explaining the different Hispanic cultures and asked the children there opinions on why it was that way. In the end the children learned that is was for respect and the continuation of traditions which is very important to there cultures.

Learning about a child’s culture is very important. By learning and sharing different things that a child’s family believes, celebrates, the food they eat and how they live allows for other children to understand and possibly share in some of their traditions or participate in celebrating that child and others like them in the community. I have several children that celebrate different holidays in my care. All of my children get to learn a little from them as their families celebrate different holidays and traditions.
