3.1. What illnesses and injuries are you most likely to see? Can you identify symptoms and recommended care?
Some common illnesses are colds and the flue. Some symptoms are runny noses, vomiting, and diarrhea. It would be important to separate the children, contact their parents, and if given signed permission from the parents of certain medications you can give them those. Some common injuries are cuts and bumps. You must report any injuries and use your first aid kit to fix the small ones. Any illness in the facility must be reported to the health department.

We often see children with colds and occasionally the flu will run through the classroom. Children with colds will ave runny/stuffy noses, a cough, and possibly a sore throat. Children with the flu or more severe illnesses might vomit, have a fever, be generally lethargic or unlike themselves. We have the children blow their noses and wash their hands throughout the day. Small bumps, cuts, or scrapes are the most common injuries in the school. We use ice packs to reduce swelling, wash with soap and water then apply bandaids for cuts/scrapes, and give love and care to comfort.
