In the case of infants and special requirements, it is important that providers are flexible and skilled enough to change planned activities according to the needs of the infant. Infants are not to be expected to stick to a planned routine. It changes from day to day

Infants and toddlers need a different environment that is centered around them and their needs. There still needs to be a routine, but curriculum should be flexible so that they meet the needs of the child. This is especially the case with toddlers, they need routine, whereas with infants, what they need is to have their needs met quickly and precisely so that they feel safe and loved.

What are some of the special requirements for infants and toddlers in an early learning environment?
Infants and toddlers need an environment where they can learn self-help but also be attended to. So, they need access to cribs, diaper tables and the floor for "tummy time" as well as small steps and things within their reach. There needs to be a mix of hard and soft elements and a distinct difference between quiet time and active play.
