I learned about "catching children doing good" from a fellow teacher. As an infant room lead, I try to do this as often as I can, especially with gentle touches and using baby signs. I've spent time in other classrooms and found that children want to make you happy, and want to please you. When you see their effort and praise it, it encourages them to continue with that behavior. I taught next door to a teacher who was so patient--she always used a calm and happy tone of voice when interacting with her 3 year-olds, and it was so inspiring to me. You could tell that she genuinely enjoyed her class, and the feeling was mutual.

I feel that when I speak to them with love and softness in my voice they like it and they listened but I believe each one of the providers have their own strategies.
