Listen to why the child is upset, Limit the unreasonable behavior, Listen/be close while the child vents their frustration through crying or a tantrum.
It is always hard to sit next to a child while they are so upset/having a tantrum. You feel like they do not want you there and it is difficult to see them so upset. But it is important to stay there for them so that they feel cared fo and can calm down when the stress is released, knowing someone will be right there to comfort them when they are ready.
