I would want them to state that we do not use frightening, cruel, unusual, hazardous, or humiliating responses to children or their behavior. We instead utilize positive responses to teach children how to make good choices regarding their behavior and actions without giving them attention or punishment for bad behavior. We use tools like describing children's actions, do's instead of don'ts, time in/special time with caregivers, aware touch, giving choices, redirecting, supporting positive peer interaction, and giving a time out if necessary for a child to calm down until they feel they are ready to talk about their behavior or rejoin the group.
