In my opinion, the key to professionalism for early childhood educators is implementing boundaries. Professional caregivers need to separate themselves from the role of parent or family member. Also, professionalism plays a role in how caregiver interact with families of children in their care. Boundaries should prevent them from inquiring about personal things that do not relate to the child's development. The professional skill of interpersonal communication will enable a caregiver to communicate effectively and respectfully with families. Another important piece of professionalism requires early childhood educators to be knowledgable about childhood development, continually depending that knowledge base and their skills of communication.
