Materials, equipment and activities must be age and developmentally appropriate for the children in care. They also should provide variety so children can explore and engage in various kinds of play (dramatic, active, have toys to manipulate for practicing fine motor skills, etc.). Materials and activities should reflect the children's interests and also expose them to new things that they may become passionate about. In an outdoor environment you must have the proper amount of space for the number of children in your care. You should also have different areas so children can engage in various types of play in different areas (a climbing toy in one area for active play, a dress up/dramatic play area, a quiet area for if children are feeling overstimulated, etc.). Your outdoor space also must be safe for the children, with the whole area as well as play equipment/toys being well maintained.
