Teachers should provide all different kind or materials, equipment, and activities for the children in their classroom, catering to the scientific, artistic, mathematical, linguistic, and creative interests of the different children. To determine whether the things you provide are developmentally appropriate, you must observe the children. If the children finish activities quickly or lose interest in the materials and equipment, you will know that the things you provided are not challenging enough for their developmental stage. On the other hand, if the children are frustrated by the difficulty level or give up, then you will know that you are aiming a little beyond their current developmental stage.
