There are so many options for play materials, but the main principle to follow when deciding what to offer is that children need variety in their play. Offering props for dramatic free play, manipulative toys for developing motor skills, and plenty of space for active play should provide many options that all support child development. For an outdoor environment, you must ensure there is at least seventy-five square feet of space per child when the maximum number of children are present. There should be play structures, appropriate for their age level. The ground around play structures also needs to be a soft material, rather than hard pavement.
