How can you make sure ALL families receive encouragement in supporting the development of their children?
There are different levels to advocate, encourage and support all families in development of their children. First is participation, families advocate simply by being present and able to begin a relationship with staff. The second is entering into a dialogue with staff, participation starts the relationship and beginning conversations deepens it, this is where parents begin to articulate their needs, desires, and dreams for their child. And the third level is to advocate in the more formal way, by understanding if there is something a child needs that he/she is not getting or something happening that needs to change, then parents use their first two strategies and take action, and so a s a parent these three levels go back and forth depending on the situation and how welcoming the setting is.
