2.3. What do you need to do to follow state laws and community procedures that protect children against abuse and neglect?
Reporting suspected abused and neglected children as soon as possible so the child can be protected from further harm. Mandated reporting plays a critical role in preventing any future harm to children. Without detection, reporting, and intervention, a child could be seriously harmed or die as a result of severe abuse or neglect, or could continue to be a victim for the rest of their lives. Although anyone who has reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered abuse or neglect can, in good faith, report abuse or neglect of a child. But if you are identified as a mandated reporter, you are required by law to report your concerns to the local Child Protective Service (CPS) office, Child Abuse Hotline or local Law Enforcement.
