Individual differences in needs is when a child's individual temperament has an impact on their needs. Children all have common developmental milestones, but the way in which they achieve these milestones has to accommodate the temperamental needs of each individual child, for example a caregiver would have to use different strategies when helping a child who is shy to achieve their social milestones than they would helping a spirited child to achieve the same social milestones. The shy child might need help to warm up to playing with others, while the spirited child may need help understanding when other children don't want to play with them.
