The tools we can use to keep track of a child's development is an Anecdotal Record, Checklist, Running Record, Tally Event and Photo's and Videotaping. The most common practice used is Anecdotal Record's. This is when you write the incident that accord and the info on the child and all the details in between. All you need to do is record what you learn from each child, what they learn and what they do on a daily basis, good or bad.

There are several ways observations can be done: a checklist of developmental milestones or achievements, a running tally, anecdotal evidence, video or photos of the observed milestone.
