What's the first thing you see or even look at when you walk in the room? You look at the Teacher. Your subconsciously want to see if you trust them by glance. If they are wearing a shirt that has holes or has never been cleaned and pants that show off too much or are very dirty, they wont trust you. They will think, "If she cant even take care of her own self, how can she take care of my child?" Its and unfortunate truth. The best way I can make a Welcoming Environment is to present myself in a professional manner (hair nice, make up on and nicely pressed clothes) and offer my hand as i welcome them and there child. I would then switch my focus to the child and invite them into the room to play and show the parent around and see if they had any questions. Being that I am a mother and have had to take my child to daycare, I have first hand knowledge of the difficulty this can put on both the child and the parent. It's wonderful when you can trust who they are with
