"Listen, Limit, Listen"
The first step "Listen" this is when you get down to eye level with the child you are talking to and ask questions like "What's going on?". After asking the question let the child finish explaining COMPLETELY before you come back with a response. This will make the child feel heard.
The second step is "Limit" this is when you as the adult step into situations but be gentle and firm at the same time. This step is when you take control and redirect the child attention to what is right.
The third step is "Listen" This is also known as the "stress release" this means if you can stay near by the child while they are throwing their tantrum and after they after they compose themselves you can ask another question and listen to what the child has to say fully.
The toughest strep for me would probably be the third step because I don't like to hear people cry and especially little children.
