Setting rules is very important for a classroom. With a mixed age classroom, the rules have to be appropriate for a wider range of children. Unlike many schools, we don't actually write ours down or post them. They are fairly basic, like not running (we are not fans of the currently popular insistence on using language unnaturally with young children, and feel that they should be familiar with the way that language is used "in the wild;" many of the currently popular English linguistic manipulations don't work particularly well in Chinese). Other "rules" are fairly simple -- treat your classmates with respect (it is a goal, not always met) and treat materials and physical objects with respect (met more often than classmates, but still a goal on occasion).
