It is essential to have a working grasp of the developmental continuum and of the regular milestones for each developmental domain. You must also have a grasp of each child's temperament and individual needs. With these two things you can make an initial lesson plan but it will still needed to be reshaped based on observation. Observation is your best friend and primary tool for effective lesson planning. Through it you can shape your practice to be individually tailored to each student and as effective as possible in progressing them along the developmental continuum at their own pace.
