Yes it is very necessary. Children at this age can't learn time but they can begin to get a sense of the time of day as it relates to a repeated schedule. Furthermore, having a reliable schedule aids in eliminating toxic stress and thus promotes the development of executive functioning. Routines and daily schedules also provide a sense of security by allowing the child to predict what happens next. It has been discovered that routines help children gain a sense of their own identity and self-worth.
