In order to follow the laws, you must report suspected abuse or neglect to CPS or law enforcement if the child is in immediate danger.

People who are mandatory reporters usually have frequent contact with children, like Child care providers, teachers, and other school personnel, doctors, nurses, and other health-care workers, counselors, therapists just to name a few. But, there are also something called institutional reporting where a mandated reporter might work or volunteer as a staff member of an institution, like a school or hospital at the time the person suspects that abuse or neglect of a child has occurred. Many institutions have internal policies and procedures for handling reports of abuse, and these usually require the person who suspects abuse to notify the head of the institution that abuse has been discovered or is suspected and it needs to be reported to child protective services or other appropriate authorities.
