Infants and toddlers need a lot of independent play to stimulate their motor skills. They need soft and chewy toys that wont easily break and be swallowed, but have bright colors and sounds are a big bonus to stimulate their brains and keep them attentive.

Requirements for infants are: colorful but simple pictures, unbreakable mirrors, stuffed animals, toy telephone, dolls, blanket or pacifier for their social, emotional and creative development. For their intellectual, language and sensory development, you'll need to provide; objects with different textures, rattles with different sounds and shapes, appropriate music, busy boxes, etc. Then for their large and small motor development, you'll need; squeeze toys, filling and dumping containers, large cubes to push and/or climb, supervised bucket swings, etc.
Requirements for toddlers are: dolls that reflect different cultural groups, props for dramatic play, dress-up clothes, hand and finger puppets, musical instruments, etc. for their social, emotional and creative development. For their intellectual, language and sensory development, you'll need; shape and/or color sorting toys, simple interlocking puzzles with knobs, music and story tapes, magnet boards with shapes, etc. Then for their large and small motor development, you'll need; large push and pull toys, cars and riding vehicles with no pedals, low slide, small steps and ramps, tunnels and balance beam, large building blocks, fill and dumping materials and containers, etc.
