Before approaching the parents, make sure you have carefully observed the child and reflected on those observations to make sure they are legitimate, unbiased, and not based off opinion. Talk with a co-worker and go over a script of sorts to make sure the discussion is light. Go to the parents with documentation of you observations and let them know you have a lot of knowledge in regards to child development, share resources for the family to understand what their next steps will be and where they can get help.
