One challenge of providing nutritious snacks for children is that they may not eat the same kind of food when with their primary caregivers. If the vegeables, fruit, beans, grains, and other healthy items are unfamiliar to the child, or if the child is accustomed to always being given the option of sweet or fatty foods instead, then the child may be quite reluctant to eat the school food.
Additionally, some healthy foods really taste best immediately after being prepared. If a food like eggs has to sit in a heating tay, it may not taste all that delicious by the time it reaches the children.
Finally, highly processed, packaged food is often less expensive than truly nutritious food such as produce and unprocessed meats. Schools may find it difficult to keep food healthy and keep the budget low.
