Discussion 3.1: How would you approach a parent or caregiver about the need for a referral for developmental screening of their child? What do you need to consider before talking to a parent or caregiver?
Before I speak to the parents/caregivers of the child, I will make sure to review the script with a co-worker. After careful review, I will speak to parents/caregivers, taking into consideration their position and relationship to child and how sensitive they might be accepting this information. I will say that after careful observation, and the WA state child’s developmental guidelines, I have noticed some areas that need attention. I would make the conversation light, and so they would not panic/worry and refer them to local referrals that can help with the progress of the child.

Making sure that the tone is not "your child has a serious problem" is a good idea, i'd just make sure you don't try and make light of the situation so they do take it serious.
