Before I approached a parent or caregiver about a need for intervention I would make sure I had plenty of observable, objective data that was backed up by developmental guidelines. I would also approach a coworker first to script the conversation and get advice. Before talking to them you must consider the possibility of toxic stress affecting executive functions, family history, culture, temperament, and the child's learning style. You must always come from a place of caring and make sure the parent knows you are on their side.
