My way of thinking is mainly shaped by my close ties to my family.
Also by my experiences with depression, public schooling, white privilege, capitalism and religion.
When points of view differ it is important to remember how deep seated these beliefs often are and to try to find common ground rather then expecting someone to suddenly support you. People sometimes change their views but it often takes a major life event. It is more productive to find common goals and work towards them while respecting and learning from each others differences.
