There are two types of culture, there is the surface and there is deep culture. The attributes of deep culture are the specific types of beliefs, values, behaviors and morals that are used in someone's family. Language, gender roles, religion, historic events and how emotion is used are factors in deep culture. Surface culture is the more more obvious cultural behaviors and/or actions. An example of surface culture would be cultural holidays, costumes/traditional clothing, artifacts and foods. These attributes are seen more often than deep attributes because they are shared more in society. What I mean by shared is that you can walk into a Vietnamese restaurant or a soul food restaurant and share foods of that culture but it's not likely you can walk into a place and start learning about a culture's morals.
The specific attributes of culture dictate behaviors children develop more likely in their homes and also in their community. I think that school is a big part of children's cultures because it is a place they spend a lot of time at and learn many different behaviors and "beliefs/Rules" in the school's structure.
