Discussion 1.1: How are observation and knowledge of individual development connected?
Having JUST taken Observation and Assessment, this is something that really became clear to me. Taking the time to observe a child over a longer period of time, say....five 15 minute observations over two weeks, you get a real sense of exactly where that child is on the development continuum. By carefully watching (I do video observations) to see precisely what the child is doing and what the child is engaged by, you get an incredible sense of precisely who that child is.
