For me, I always use positive communication to help to know more about children and families. Communication is more than words. It is also tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. I do think an understanding of diversity plays an important part. We should honor all children’s race, religion, culture, gender, physical ability and family structure. Meanwhile, an understanding of myself is also very important because self-reflection and knowing who you are is a good starting point for working collaboratively with all families.
