When the baby starts to cry, one of the first things you need to do is comfort her, maybe she/he just want to be held. If the crying continues check/change the diaper, check if the baby is hungry or thirsty, if the crying continues it could be that the baby needs a nap. Sometimes the crying continues due to teething or constipation. In the situations when the baby cries periodically but still is allows you to comfort him/her, you should let the parent know, and see what they might want to do, pick the child up from the day care, or just be informed if the crying becomes consisted, painful and frustrated, and is in need of a medical attention. If the situation worsens, inform the parent.

Of course we need to figure out the causes of the cry of a baby, but what about the techniques to calm her down. Some of those I found very successful are holding the baby snug to my body , rocking her at the same time, and making a shushing noise. At times even playing silly and distracting the baby, if pain is not the cause of the crying , works very well.

I have also found that a look out the window or seating baby in a low chair in a doorway open to outside helps to calm them.
