Routine is helpful to establish a rhythm and set expectations...once adapted to, slight adjustments are less likely to be felt by the group and they will often naturally get back in the stream of flow.

Yes it is a good idea to have a schedule and routine for the classroom. That doesn't mean it is set in stone and can be adapted for special days/circumstances.

Is it necessary to have a daily schedule and routine for children? If so, why?
It is very necessary and important to create routines for children. Routines can allow most children to become familiar with something whether its a game or memorization of a certain learning target that is trying to be accomplished. Routine also provides consistency for the child(ren) and consistency is important for children because it gives them a sense of safety and a sense of comfort within there learning center or home. Implementing routines within a child's day helps with time, sequential order skills and overall a safe, comfortably and consistent environment which makes kids more willing and ready to learn.

Yes it is important to loosely follow a schedule. Meal and snack times should be regular. As young as they are, the kids notice when things are supposed to be, and when they are not, they don't feel safe/comfortable.

Having a routine and something you do daily when children come into your care, such as greeting them, helps them to feel safe.

yes, when children are kept in a regular schedule they feel a sense of security and allows them to predict what will happen next. This allows the child to develop their own identity and self worth in the activities that they participate in.
