I think the best way to get to know children and families is to ask polite but interested questions that will provide you with information that will help you be a better care provider. Especially with children you should listen more than you lecture and let them see that you are very interested in what they have to say. Another good way to get to know a parent is by talking to them about their child's day when they come to pick them up.
