Specific needs for the infant stage of development are lots of mental stimulation. They begin to look for familiar faces, sounds and patterns. They require interaction and attention. In the toddler stage of development, children environments in which they can begin to explore. They need to be placed in situations where they will develop problem solving skills. These challenging exercises need to be gradually increasing in complexity. Preschoolers need to be challenged to imagine and predict outcomes of a story or actions. We should ask them questions and encourage them to be curious and creative. Allow preschoolers to lead and make independent choices. Young school-agers should be encourage to develop friendships and have playdates. They will begin to develop social groups of friends and playmates. They should be encouraged to create art projects with several different art mediums. They should be taught how to operate common tools like a phone, a park swing, crayons, pencils, building blocks, etc.
