Being someone who works with kids with learning disabilities, I have to be aware and sensitive to the way the child and family does their daily routines. Try and sit down with the child and family to get a grasp of what a day in their household consists of. Making a smooth transition from family to care facility is a key role in making the children feel safe and wanted. Using positive re-enforcement with the kids give them a sense of accomplishment. I look at children like they are sponges so if we fill the little sponges with one way or the highway they will have a difficult time seeing and accepting the different types of religions, races, holidays.
