Executive functioning is referred to the brain's "Air Traffic Control System", enabling the brain and body to deal with multiple information and distractions at one time. Can be broken down into three skill areas which are working memory, inhibitory control and mental flexibility and it's associated with good child outcomes, success in school, and life-long benefits. When the caregiver prolongs and/or ignores the negative situation/behavior of the child(ren), it has a negative developmental outcome for the child(ren), known as toxic stress.
