Confidentially is important in childcare and education because confidentially builds trusts between the families and the hired caregivers, it keeps children and families safe from exploitation, ridicule, and embarrassment, and helps maintain impartiality among staff and parents of other children.
If confidentially is not maintained, troubled or struggling children may be labeled, targeted by bullies, or gossiped about even by well-meaning people. Parents may feel their children are unsafe in a place where so much information about them is shared with too many staff members, other parents/guardians, or overhead by children. Guardians who are having a hard time raising the children in their care may feel overwhelmed by knowing their lives are being scrutinized by too many eyes. Finally, not maintaining confidentially can lead to lawsuits if the issues are severe enough.
