Before entering the workforce as a teacher, I will do my best to familiarize myself with the WAC and NAEYC code of ethics. Both guidelines detail what will be expected of me and will help as a starting point. Since I'm planning to take my teaching career slowly, first by maybe subbing for a couple of days of the week, then working as a teaching assistant before taking on a classroom of my own as a lead teacher, I will take feedback from my colleagues to help me figure out what skills I need to develop. Feedback is a powerful tool, and in my previous jobs, I always felt a bit afraid to make a mistake. I know with children's care depending on me, I should not let fear, or pride, or uncertainty get in the way of my development. It's important that I continue to learn about myself so that I can be a better model.
On a stress management side, I'm already taking some steps to understanding myself. This month I left my job as financial team assistant in a small, but busy company in Seattle. It was not my passion, and so as my first quarter comes to a close with BC, I can take some time to recenter and reacquaint myself with what I love. My hope is that once I create a new routine, I can slowly start to add more back on to my plate. I will dig deeper into learning what I need to do to become a teacher and talk to the teachers that I know about what their recommendations are. Then I can take the advice that might work best for me as I carve out my new career.
