What it takes for good communication would be always have the parents communicate with me if there will be a change with their schedules or if there will be a family member picking up the child/children another thing that is important with communication would be if i have an emergency and can not take your child in that day to let you know or if i will be out of town to let you know ahead of time.

It takes an open mind and a lot of respect to communicate affectively with families. Every family is going to be different your job is not to judge them or to critique them in how they do things but to accept it and try to work with their child the way they do. This will show the family that you respect their way of life.

In order to have good communication with families, professionals need to have an open mind during any and all interactions. If families don't feel welcome, they are more likely to leave the program altogether. Also, families need to know that the professionals just want what is best for the child. Communication between everyone involved will improve as soon as everyone is on the same page.
