For children, it's often sufficient to keep rules to a minimum and make sure they are easy to understand. Help children to understand why the rules are there and gently redirect their energy. Try not to punish children for breaking the rules, but praise children for behaving well instead. For older children, you may take their input on the rules. Make sure the rules set are developmentally and age appropriate so that children will be able to follow them with little confusion. Be firm, but flexible and must be maintained consistently.

Be consistent with rules, give positive praise and feedback. give choices, tell the child what positive behavior they should have done, don't nag, acknowledge their feelings and help direct them with ways to properly express themselves.
