First Step (Listen): If a child is behaving unreasonably, speak to them at eye level and ask them why they are behaving in that way.
Second Step (Limit): If the child continues to behave in the same way, prevent that action from happening again, either by removing the child from the area or by stopping them from hoarding toys or materials.
Third Step (Listen): Following the second step, the child will most likely be upset. Remain with the child and calmly wait until they have calmed down.
For me, the second step would be toughest for me. Having to physically remove a child from an environment is uncomfortable, and while I know that allowing them to vent their emotions is healthy, I would normally be reluctant to do anything that might make a child start crying.
